Survivors of abuse within the Catholic Church dropped off a new list to the Milwaukee County District Attorney of alleged offenders within the church.

Members of a Wisconsin-based project designed to end clergy abuse on Tuesday delivered what it said were thousands of pages of secret abuse-related church documents to Attorney General Josh Kaul.

On Tuesday, representatives of Nate's Mission marched up the steps of the Wisconsin state Capitol to deliver alleged documents of clergy abuse to Attorney General Josh Kaul.

Nate's Mission, an advocacy group aimed at ending clergy abuse in Wisconsin, handed the documents over to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul on Tuesday, in a move to further the investigation launched last year into abusive clergy and the coverup of abuse by Catholic dioceses.

On the first of two days of public sessions during the U.S. bishops' fall general assembly, a group of sex abuse survivors in a Nov. 16 news conference called on the prelates meeting in Baltimore to focus less on who can take Communion and instead do more to end sex abuse and other abuses by clergy.

The survivors also demanded that the bishops, as a group, denounce Church Militant, a right-wing group that had organized a rally nearby, and the ideas they said the group was dispersing.

Survivors and their advocates have long called for Wisconsin officials to launch an investigation, contending any review should be conducted by independent authorities and not the same institutions accused of perpetuating and covering up misconduct

They are also calling on the Wisconsin attorney general’s office to include Catholic-run Indian residential schools in the investigation into clergy abuse.

Dozens gathered under a pavilion in Keshena for a candlelight vigil to bring awareness to the children who were abused by the Catholic Church at Indigenous residential and boarding schools.

Wisconsin tribal leaders are asking Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul to investigate abuse and deaths at Wisconsin’s residential schools.

An investigation seeking reports of abuse by members of the clergy in Wisconsin has generated nearly 180 reports from residents across the state, according to the Department of Justice.

More than 100 survivors have come forward.

"They are some older allegations, from the 1980s, but again potentially prosecutable based on the extension of the statute of limitations that exists," Lasee said.

Kaul says he, and the Department of Justice, will continue to receive those reports, and he is encouraging people to continue to come forward.

Attorney General Josh Kaul is leading Wisconsin's first independent review of clergy and faith leader abuse. He has embarked on a statewide tour to encourage victims to come forward. On Monday, he made his first stop in Superior.

This unfortunate position of the archbishop notwithstanding, the attorney general must go forward with the review because without the whole and complete truth there can be no justice, and without justice there will be no healing.
