Wisconsin AG Kaul encourages clergy and faith leader abuse victims to come forward

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – More than 100 survivors have come forward to take part in he Wisconsin inquiry into clergy and faith leader abuse.

Attorney General Josh Kaul La Crosse County district attorney Tim Gruenke and victim advocates gathered in La Crosse today to share an update.

Kaul did not say how many reports by survivors have generated referrals to law enforcement or to survivor services.

Kaul is asking more survivors to come forward.

“We are still receiving reports and that we will still be receiving reports. For the next few months here at the very least,” said Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul.

Kaul wants survivors and witnesses and anyone who knows of abuse that was concealed to come forward.

“Seeing something like this from the department of justice it is so clear in taking a stand again sexual assault specifically from religious organization is really powerful and I think will encourage people to speak up in the future,” said New Horizons Shelter development coordinator Sierra Lyon New Horizons development coordinator.

The Department of Justice is encouraging survivors and witnesses to report it, no matter when it happened at SupportSurvivors.WIDOJ.gov.
